Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu to attend the 45th ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Meeting in Malaysia
Singapore, 2 October 2023 – Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Ms Grace Fu, will participate in the 45th ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 3 to 6 October 2023.
2 AMAF is an annual gathering of the 10 ASEAN Member Countries to foster cooperation and development in the food, agriculture, and forestry sectors. This year’s meeting will be chaired by Malaysia’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Yb Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad Bin Sabu, with the theme “Growing Together: Advancing ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry for Sustainability Development”. ASEAN Member States will discuss the importance of sustainability in the agriculture and forestry sector and ways to enhance regional food security.
3 Following the AMAF meeting, Ministers of the People’s Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea will meet with ASEAN Ministers at the AMAF+3 meeting to exchange views and discuss cooperation on areas of mutual interests in the food, agriculture, and forestry sectors under theASEAN Plus Three Cooperation Strategy (APTCS) 2016 – 2025, which includes mechanisms such as the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR).
4 In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations this year, Japan will present updated initiatives in the ASEAN-Japan Midori Cooperation Plan at the ASEAN-Japan Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry (AJMAF). There will also be an ASEAN-China Ministerial Meeting on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Cooperation to discuss strengthening SPS cooperation in food safety, plant, and animal health.
5 During her visit, Minister Fu will have bilateral meetings with counterparts from ASEAN and AMAF+3 partners to review and discuss bilateral cooperation in food safety and security.
6 Minister Fu will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment and the Singapore Food Agency.
